Halloween has always been a big thing in our house - when I was little my sisters birthday fell near it so we had halloween parties with sticky buns on string you had to eat with no hands; apple bobbing and spooky stories. My husband despite being American is totally un-into halloween, but the one thing he does do is carve out the pumpkin 'Jack O Lantern' - as he calls it, weilding a sharp knife with flourish.

In previous years I've dried the seeds and used them for decorations - threaded through with a needle and cotton, sometimes painted, other times plain. But this is rather labour intensive unless little hands want to join in - which this year was a 'no'. So this year I'll try roasting the seeds and salt them for snacks - and eat them all myself!
